Jakini is very passionate about dismantling the educational and legal disparities that plague her St. Louis Community, as well as seeking to change the policies that foster mass incarceration in black communities. She volunteered at the Circleville Juvenile Detention Center through Buckeye REACH and goes home to volunteer at the Saint Louis Juvenile Detention Center. Following her undergraduate studies, Jakini would like to pursue a Master’s and Ph.D. in Political Science. She hopes to go into public policy and advocacy on behalf of black men and women who have been dealt with unjustly in legal spaces, and perhaps run for office. By integrating her Ohio State experiences to her professional life, she hopes to bring about social change by fostering critical dialogue.
