Students Consult with Social Media App Developer

February 2, 2015

Skyhouse is a hyperlocal network that enables users to share content with the people around them. After closing their initial round of funding in August 2014, the next milestone for the Skyhouse team is the beta release of the Skyhouse app at Central Ohio universities and high schools in winter 2015.

The sophomore cohort of the Buckeye Leadership Fellows Program is challenged to demonstrate its leadership qualities to help The Ohio State University become the birthplace of the next big time social app.

Over the next 11 weeks, students will become a “growth hackers” tasked to get the Skyhouse product (mobile app) in students' hands and give them a way to interact with the people around them.

There is a catch: a software product is NEVER finished. This challenge is not just about creatively marketing Skyhouse and getting people to download and interact on the app. The challenge is also about hearing user feedback and distilling that feedback down to features that enhance the user experience (UX). When it comes to software, engagement is everything. 1,000 users who open an app every single day is better than 5,000 users who only open the app once a month. The overarching goal of this challenge will be to get students engaged on Skyhouse.

Parameters

A successful team will do the following:

  • Share something daily on the Skyhouse app and make sure that you believe Skyhouse’s value proposition.
  • Your team will be judged by your collaborative efforts as a group, but also by your collective, individual efforts.

As an individual:

  • Build one engaged Skyhouse community around your daily life. The community can be formed around your residence hall, your student organization space, your workplace, a classroom building you frequent (e.g. Sullivant for Dance), etc. ? Recruit and guide 3 other students outside of BLF to build 1 engaged Skyhouse community. Strong “leaders” are able to inspire other ambitious and driven individuals to join them.
