Letter to a Mentor - Jasmin Shaw

May 22, 2020

By Beth Johnson

Dear Martin,

As my time in Columbus ends, I want to thank you for the role you have played in my life. Over the past four years, I have learned so much from you. You have taught me not only through your words, but more importantly through your actions.

Your ability to connect with and form personal relationships with the neighbors NSI serves, volunteers, and staff members is something I greatly admire. NSI’s warm and welcoming environment is truly a reflection of your character and leadership. Every time I stepped into the building, I felt appreciated and valued. Despite having a million things to do every day, you always took the time to ask me about my classes, family, and how I was doing overall. Your ability to show compassion while still leading NSI efficiently is something I hope to emulate one day. It is extremely evident how passionate you are about the work NSI does and how much you care about every single person that comes in contact with the organization. Your impact on the Columbus community is something that could never be perfectly measured or described. Your exuberance and resiliency are two qualities that I know will help sustain NSI well into the future. Although I am going to miss seeing you every week, I look forward to visiting Columbus in the future and hearing about all the great work you will have continued to do. I am so grateful to have met you and thank you for everything!

Sincerely,

Jasmin Shaw
