Buckeye Leadership Fellows Travel to India
January 28, 2014
Ohio State students in the Buckeye Leadership Fellows (BLF) program traveled to India over their winter break, December 12-21, as part of an international immersion experience. By partnering with the program IndoGenius, a study-abroad initiative working to increase interaction between college students in the US and the country of India, participants were able to learn about the importance and relevance of India. During their trip, the Buckeye Leadership Fellows got to visit Bahai Auditorium, Delhi University and the Bombay Stock Exchange. Over the course of ten days, students also visited several cities including Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Mumbai and rural Maharashtra.
BLF chose India for their winter 2013 trip because of its importance as the world’s largest democracy and for its re-emergence as a global leader in business and culture. The trip was a true cultural immersion designed to equip students to become 21st century leaders. Students were able to experience India’s rural countryside as well as life in the biggest cities and learned about the country’s emerging economy, stratified societal structure, religious diversity and the budding youth movement.
The mission of BLF is to build, in partnership with alumni and community leaders, unique transformative experiences for undergraduate students so they can achieve a competitive advantage in their post-graduate pursuits and remain deeply connected to the university. The international immersion experience is critical to the program because BLF is dedicated to showing what leadership looks like in other countries and cultures and strives to show students how they, as emerging leaders, are able to make an impact in countries other than the US. The experience also compliments the other professional development activities BLF offers.
